? Set up and position components for welding, including tacking and bracing assemblies to maintain position and minimize distortion
? Fit and assemble flanges, nozzles, manholes, and internal components per ASME and customer requirements
? Perform precision cuts using torch, plasma, or band saw as required for fit-up
? Work from isometric drawings, fabrication drawings, and weld maps to complete assemblies to code
? Inspect own work and assemblies against drawings for dimensional accuracy and code compliance prior to weld-out
Shop Collaboration & Production Support
? Work closely with welders, vessel fitters, pipefitters, and QC personnel to maintain production flow
? Coordinate with crane operators and rigging crews for safe lift, positioning, and rotation of heavy assemblies
? Support shop layout and material staging to keep work areas organized and efficient
? Assist in the interpretation of job packages including traveler documents, MTRs, and NDE requirements
? Communicate fit-up issues or drawing discrepancies to the foreman promptly
Safety & Quality Compliance
? Adhere to all shop safety policies, OSHA standards, and PPE requirements at all times
? Follow QC hold points, inspection requirements, and weld procedure specifications (WPS) as directed
? Properly handle, store, and identify materials and weld consumables per project traceability requirements
? Participate in toolbox talks, safety audits, and incident investigations as required
Classification Level - This position is classified across four levels: Fitter C, Fitter B, Fitter A, and Master Fitter. Classification level is assigned through our approved classification review process based on documented skill, experience, qualifications, internal evaluations, and demonstrated competency in the shop environment. Shop Leads and Production Superintendents may provide operational input, but no classification is implied or guaranteed based solely on prior experience, credentials, or self-assessment.
Fitter C • Fitter B • Fitter A • Master Fitter
Fitter C - Entry-level craft. Typically 0-3 years of experience; has experience as a helper on at least one job; assists upper-level craft with layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of structural steel or pipe, fixtures, and equipment; works under guidance and check-ins from more experienced personnel.
Fitter B - Mid-level craft. Typically 3+ years of validated experience; has basic or developing knowledge of layout and assembly; fabricates and assembles pipe or steel under supervision of tenured craft; requires guidance and periodic check-ins.
Fitter A - Senior craft. NCCER certified or typically 8+ years of validated experience through resume/work history and/or internal evaluations; has proven qualifications in pipe layout, steel layout, vessel assembly, and heater assembly; can work independently and may train Fitter B and Fitter C employees.
Master Fitter - Master-level craft. Has worked as a Fitter A and demonstrates specialized training and skill verification for pipe, tubes, structural steel layout, and pressure-boundary assembly; NCCER certified in at least one classification/multiple categories or typically 15+ years of verifiable experience; can work independently, drive projects, and assist QC with fabrication-related administrative coordination.
Performance Standards - All personnel in this position are required to maintain a minimum of 90% productive labor efficiency hour over hour and sustain a rework rate of less than 5%. These standards are monitored by Shop Leads and Production Superintendents and are a condition of continued classification at any skill level. Productivity is measured as hours available to perform a task versus hours spent. Available task hours are defined and provided by the Shop Leads.
? Ability to lift up to 60 lbs unassisted; team lift required for heavier components
? Must be able to stand, crouch, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
? Comfortable working at height on scaffolding, manlifts, and elevated platforms
? Exposure to heat, noise, fumes, and other conditions typical of a heavy fabrication shop
? Use of full PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, and welding face shields as required
WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS
This is a full-time, on-site position. Standard hours are Monday through Friday aligned with shop production schedules. Overtime and Saturday shifts are common during peak production periods. Work is performed in an active heavy fabrication shop environment at the Tulsa, Oklahoma facility, as assigned.
National Background Check - The weld test is a 3G butt weld on 1/2" carbon steel plate using FCAW - 10-panel drug screen
