Industrial Cleaner & Material Handler

Position Summary
The Industrial Cleaner & Material Handler is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and visual standards of the manufacturing facility in alignment with 5S and Lean manufacturing principles. This position ensures that production areas, equipment, and facility grounds are clean, safe, and well organized while also supporting operations through material movement and equipment operation including forklifts and other industrial equipment. The role plays an important part in maintaining a safe, efficient, and professional working environment for employees, customers, and visitors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Facility Cleaning & 5S
• Establish and maintain 5S standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) throughout the manufacturing facility.
• Perform industrial cleaning tasks including:
o floor scrubbing
o pressure washing
o equipment cleaning
o facility sanitation
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, production spaces, and warehouse areas.
• Support visual management practices such as labeling, painting, floor markings, and organization of workspaces.
• Ensure buildings and surrounding grounds present a clean and professional appearance.
Material Handling & Equipment Operation
• Operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment to move materials, supplies, and waste throughout the facility.
• May operate additional equipment such as scissor lifts, floor scrubbers, pressure washers, and powered tools.
• Assist with staging materials, organizing inventory, and maintaining production floor flow.
Facility Support
• Assist maintenance with minor building and grounds maintenance tasks.
• Conduct routine facility inspections and maintain basic records of cleaning and safety activities.
• Identify safety hazards and maintain compliance with safety procedures.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow all safety procedures, environmental guidelines, and chemical handling protocols.
• Participate in safety meetings, training, and facility hazard assessments.
• Support company quality and safety standards.
Qualifications Education
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in industrial cleaning, manufacturing, warehouse, or maintenance environments preferred.
• Forklift experience required.
Skills & Abilities
• Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, floor scrubbers, and pressure washing equipment.
• Ability to read and understand safety labels and chemical safety data sheets.
• Basic mechanical or handyman skills preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees across departments.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and safety.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures.
• Ability to work at heights when using ladders or lifts.
Work Environment
This position operates in a manufacturing facility environment and may involve exposure to equipment noise, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures.
